Google Business Profile and your website: how they work together
By Nick Duncan · October 22, 2026
When someone nearby searches for a service like yours, Google often shows a map with a few businesses before the regular results. Those listings come from Google Business Profile, a free listing Google provides. Your website and your profile do different jobs, and they work best together.
What the profile does
- Shows your name, hours, phone, location or service area, and photos in Google Search and Maps.
- Lets people call, get directions or visit your website in one tap.
- Collects customer reviews, which you can reply to.
What the website adds
- Room to explain your services, prices, service area and what makes you different.
- A place you control, without platform limits on layout or content.
- Pages Google can read to understand what you do, which supports your profile.
Connect them properly
- Use exactly the same business name, phone number and address (or service area) on both.
- Put your website address in the profile's Website field.
- On the website, show your phone as a tap-to-call link and add your hours.
- Add LocalBusiness structured data to the site so search engines can read those details reliably.
- Update holiday and seasonal hours in both places.
Getting started
You can create or claim a profile for free at business.google.com. Google will ask you to verify that you own the business; the method varies and can include a phone call, email or a short video.
